Flattening The Curve: Every rush
我從未用過35厘米攝影機，
未為電影場景打過燈，
也未做過攝影助手，
但楊德昌和張艾嘉卻仍堅持找我為他們第一部電影《海灘的一天》掌鏡。
看到第一次拍攝的毛片……
看到光線如何轉化為影像，
看到辛勞化為成果，讓人亢奮。
那以後的每一部電影的每一段毛片,
莫不如是，至今猶然。
I had never held a 35mm camera before.
I had never lit a set.
I had never been an assistant and yet
Edward Yang and Sylvia Chang insisted I DP [direct the photography for] their first film, That Day on the Beach.
That first day of rushes…
to see light forming images…
to see effort taking form was a RUSH,
as is the first time I see the first day’s images of every film.
It still is.
